Maia Otarashvili

Eurasia Program Director at Foreign Policy Research Institute

Dr. Maia Otarashvili has been working with the Foreign Policy Research Institute, a nonpartisan think tank, for 12 years, becoming the Eurasia Program Director in April of 2023, and has completed two Research Fellowships during her time with them so far.

Dr. Otarashvili is co-editor of FPRI’s 2017 volume Does Democracy Matter? The United States and Global Democracy Support. Her research focuses on geopolitics and security of the Black Sea-Caucasus region, Russian foreign policy, and the post-Soviet conflicts in Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine. Dr. Otarashvili holds an Doctor of Philosophy in War Studies from King’s College, London, and an M.A. in Globalization, Development and Transition from the University of Westminster in London, with emphasis on post-authoritarian transitions. In addition to English, she also speaks Russian and Georgian.
